Physiological control and behaviour

the production of prosody. Ph.D. dissertation, 179 pp. Dept. of Language
and Speech, Univ. of Nijmegen, the Netherlands
A very short description of my Ph.D. thesis
The relation between three sets of signals is studied in this dissertation:
acoustic parameters related to prosody, i.e. fundamental frequency,
intensity level and spectral contents of the speech signal;
voice source parameters; and
recordings of some physiological mechanisms that are known to be important
in the control of prosody such as the electromyographic activity of the
cricothyroid, vocalis, and sternohyoid, lung volume and subglottal, oral,
and transglottal pressure.
Voice source parameters are obtained by a pitch-synchronous fit of the
Liljencrants-Fant (LF) model to the estimated glottal flow signal. This method
is described and evaluated.
